In some places the wall is 23 to 26 feet high and 20 to 23 feet thick at the base. This narrows down to 16 feet at the top. At Badaling, paved steps lead from an arched gate to the top of the wall, which is built with three or four layers of bricks to make a road 13 to 16 feet wide. This road can accommodate five or six horses or 10 people abreast. The [M 002 / Ming walls] averaged between 22 and 26 feet in height and were 21 feet thick at the base. The top was 18 feet wide.
